ILEETA 2018

International Law Enforcement Trainers and Educators Association Conference – 2018

Team One Network presented four courses during the 2018 ILEETA Training Conference and had a booth in the Expo hall.

Altogether, ILEETA Trainers offer more than 150 courses and more than two dozen instructor certifications/armorer courses. Topics include use of force, officer survival, defensive tactics, instructor development, specialized training and firearms including a live fire track. Attendees receive a certificate of attendance, conference bag, shirt and numerous other giveaways.

Certification, armorer and live fire courses will require advance registration as there will be limits on class size. These courses may charge up to $35 per person (materials fees to cover costs), which will be paid prior to the conference directly to the instructor. Specific details on signing up for these courses will be made available on the ILEETA web site, (www.ileeta.org), and by e-mail to those who have registered for the conference.

Introduction to Suppressors

Monday. John Meyer and Neil Honkala teamed up with BLACKHAWK! and did 4-hours on the range with wide-array of suppressed guns for officers from 6 different departments.  The workshop allowed participants to try out suppressors while learning more about the advantages they provide to tactical operations and the reduced risk of hearing loss when using them in training.   This workshop was made possible with Suppressors from BLACKHAWK!, guns from CZ-USA, Gorilla, Ruger, Savage Arms, and Springfield Armory with optics from Trijicon and Bushnell, ammunition from Gorilla, and of course, targets from Action Target.

Low Light Instructor Development

Joe Willis, had over 30 instructors from nearly as many departments in a 4-hour workshop on Instructor Development for Low Light Training.  The workshop provided trainers with an update on lighting systems available from our friends at Streamlight Inc. as well as an opportunity to discuss emerging trends in Low Light Training.  The emphasis of the workshop was on developing “Opportunity Training” to encourage trainers to take advantage of opportunities to reinforce perishable skills or introduce novel concepts effectively with limited time.

Emerson Hour – What’s become more clear to you since we met last?

Monday Night.  This year we were honored to have one of our own, Joe Willis assume responsibility for the Conference’s, “Emerson Hour.”  The event began 5-years ago when Brian Willis (no relation) sought an opportunity to challenge members to speak on matters that were important to the profession.  Much a like a Ted Talk, the Emerson hour consists of six speakers each with 9-minutes to present on a topic of their choosing.  They are not allowed to use any sort of media such as slides or videos and they must answer Emerson’s greeting question, “What’s become more clear to you since we met last?”

Dynamic Use of Target Systems

Tuesday.  Niel Honkala and John Meyer were back out to the range again with members of 10 different departments.  This time for a Dynamic Use of Target Systems workshop.  In this 4-hour fast-paced program, we run participants through several drills to show them a variety of creative and effective ways to integrate versatile targets into their range programs.  Action Target provides the majority of support for this event and brought out a wide variety of guns and optics from other sponsors to give participants an opportunity to try out a variety of options.  In this workshop participants used steel reactive targets, the Auto-Target System, Paper, and the, “Running Man Target.”  We also introduce them to several of our drills.

Springfield Armory XDs Armorer

Wednesday.  Gary Monreal trained __ officers from _ departments as armorers for the Springfield Armory XDs Pistol.  This is the first year we conducted this training at the conference but it will also be a rotating course at ILEETA and we look forward to presenting it again.   Our Armorer courses are manufacturer sponsored and certify the participants in accordance with manufacturer specifications.  Each certificate is valid for three-years.

ILEETA EXPO

One of the best parts of coming to the conference for us each year is the Expo.  We always have a booth where friends and fellow trainers can find us.  This year, Joe Willis, Gary Monreal, and Bob Willis worked the booth along with John Meyer.
