Crisis Intervention Tactics
This course is designed for the Law Enforcement Officer to develop, understand, and employ practical Crisis Intervention tactics. Based on the training recommendations made by the creators of the “Memphis Model” of crisis intervention, this course provides an extensive look at communication tactics, and mental health awareness to better prepare officers to confront situations involving subjects in crisis.
Outcomes:
- Understand clinical issues related to mental illness, developmental disorders, medications, and side effects
- Conduct alcohol and drug assessments
- Define co-morbid disorders and how they can influence crisis-based behaviors
- Understand the family/consumer perspective of law enforcement encounters
- Conduct suicide prevention and be tactically prepared for potential suicide by cop scenarios
- Understand legal issues surrounding responding to crisis incidents, to include officer liability
- Understand best policies and procedures for crisis response
- Understand equipment requirements and applications
- Identify community resources available to assist those in crisis
